The Old Manor House Garden at Capel Manor College and Gardens in Enfield is an ambitious three
year project to produce a signature garden as a new ‘must see’ visitor attraction at Bullsmoor Lane
to be completed for the Olympic year.
Redwood Stone are sponsoring and building the ruined 14th century fortified Manor House
that will provide the structure and backdrop to a garden to be lavishly planted by
Capel Manor
head gardeners
Julie Phipps and Mark Cook. The whole site of the garden will be drawn
together by the moat and swimming pond sponsored and built by Anglo Swimming Ponds.
An artist’s impression of the finished garden
The ruined Manor House designed by Tim Redwood is perhaps the purest folly of all, a ruin in reverse that will
grow and grow like those black & white video clips of demolitions played backwards. Visitors to
Capel Manor over the coming months and years will be able to witness an historical
building rise
from the ground to its (almost) former glory.
Redwood Stone’s initial design drawing
Phase One of the garden opens this summer when the Bell Tower and Cloister along with the Well will
be complete and remnants of the Gatehouse, Banqueting Hall, Living Quarters and
Madam Susanna Avery's Kitchen will start appearing.
