Our display on Main Avenue at Chelsea 2005 was a preview of our new Factory Shop at The Stoneworks in Wells. The ‘stable style’ cobbled courtyard was not only a new take on our Gothic Folly, but also contained numerous separate rooms – each a setting for one of the diverse selection of treasures to be found in The Stoneworks Factory Shop.
RHS Merit for Outstanding Presentation
In a milestone year Hillier won their 60th consecutive Gold Medal as well as the President’s award for incumbent president’s favourite exhibit in the Floral Marquee for the 20th time. In addition to this plantsman Ricky Dorlay was celebrating his 40th Chelsea, and Andrew McIndoe his 15th as the designer of the exhibit. In amongst the stunning planting were some of our antique stone pieces including these old millstones around the edge of the pond.
Gold Medal, The President’s Award
The Alitex Greenhouse exhibit on Main Avenue was based on the famous mediaeval gardens at the Prieure Notre Dame d’Orsan in the Berry region of France. One of the central features was a charming fountain designed and manufactured by Redwood Stone in the style of the very fountain at d’Orsan.
RHS Sundries Trophy
The central feature of the courtyard was a new pond built using Gothic Folly components and featuring a Copular Fountain. Decorating the courtyard were various pieces from our collection of Old Stone Troughs and the two ‘rooms’ beyond were the homes for our Granite and Classical displays.
The left side of the courtyard had a Reclamation and a Terracotta display with the cobbled pathway leading to an Antiques showroom under the Roman Arch. Beyond the arch were our Manor House Gate Piers and a beautiful hand carved ‘Autumn’, one of a set of Four Seasons Statues.
And last but not least our ‘Jungle’ corner. These sandstone, white and travertine marble animals had to be caged behind bars at the Show but can be seen roaming free amongst all the other treasures featured at The Stoneworks Factory Shop,
